PROGRAMS
Element of Play®
The Element of Play® Learning Space is often the first component of Element of Play® to be introduced into a community setting.
As the project evolves, the EOP® Learning Space transforms into a communal space for young children to access programming that supports positive development outcomes and prepares them to enter school. Adult caregivers come together to learn about child development, engage in playful activities with children, and acquire transferable skills for stronger employability.
Since the first EOP® Learning Space launched in 2014, WWO has opened multiple locations at different project sites from Northern to Southern Vietnam. We continue to provide training and enrichment for local teams and caregivers to ensure sustainable results at all community-based locations.
Skills Development: An Equal Footing for The Future
With the passage of time, children in WWO's programs have grown and begun to face new challenges as young adults. It is only natural for us to grow with them and develop a support system for at-risk adolescent and youth that responds to their needs.
WWO also reached out to youth living in institutions and hard-to-reach communities who are ageing-out of group homes and centers without the necessary skills and knowledge for the workforce, married life, or the general skills needed for successful independence.
According to statistics released by the Vietnam Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs in 2008, across Vietnam there were:
16,000 Street Children and Youth
14,600 Children and Youth Living in Institutions
4,600 – 12,200 Youth Using Drugs
15,000 – 20,000 Youth Engaging in Commercial Sex Work
WWO Young Leaders
At WWO, in addition to comprehensive support services in health, psychosocial and education, youth also learn life-skills to manage their daily needs efficiently, receive vocational training through our partner schools, and join the young leaders’ initiative to give back to their community in a new capacity. Program participants are entitled to an Individual Start-up Fund that further supports their transition to adulthood.:
Camp Colors of Love: Children and Youth Living with Serious Illness
The plight of children and youth living with serious illness, including HIV and cancer, is precarious and heart-wrenching. Even though the national health coverage in Vietnam began distributing antiretroviral (ARV) medications and treatments at no cost for its HIV+/AIDS population, many children and youth still struggle to gain access to services due to the lack of proper documentation. Discrimination and social stigmatization cause some youth to become depressed and even refuse treatment due to loss of hope.
Statistics from UNAIDS in 2015 indicate that across Vietnam there were:
3,900 to 6,100 Children Aged 0-14 living with HIV and
230,000 to 290,000 Adults/Adolescents Aged 15 and older living with HIV.
Additionally, about 54,000 children have become orphans because of AIDS
Since 2008, through a partnership with SeriousFun Children’s Network, WWO has hosted an annual, summer camp experience – fun-filled and 100%-free, these camps for children living with serious illnesses, bring bonding, friendship and self-confidence to the young campers.
In Vietnam, Camp Colors of Love (CCL) activities are designed to teach children life-skills, interpersonal-skills, healthcare knowledge, and to renew their resilience and sense of hope in the most exciting and creative ways.
In recent years, due to the rising number of applications from campers, CCL has added additional day camp and weekend camp programs to enhance the accessibility, flexibility, and efficiency of this program.
Better Services, Stronger Support Networks, and Deeper Understanding: It is a promise that WWO has made to children, youth and families in Vietnam since 2004 and we are still carrying it out this promise today.
